✏️ Gap mode

Do not conjugate in a vacuum. Learn verbs where they actually occur: embedded in a real Spanish sentence.

The problem

If you memorise hablar in isolation as “I speak → hablo”, you can produce the form on the flashcard – but you stall in a real conversation. Your brain has never processed the form inside a sentence, never felt how it sounds with real words around it.

Context as a lever

In gap mode you get a real example sentence instead of a bare card – with a gap exactly where the form belongs. You see the context, you feel the meaning, and only then do you type the answer. Once revealed, the correct form lights up green inside the sentence, so the link between form and context sticks.

When does gap mode kick in?

Gap mode is optional and can be switched on or off at any time. For cards without a stored example sentence, Camaleón falls back to the classic view automatically – you never miss a single exercise.

How it works

1

Read the context

You see the full sentence with one gap – the context reveals subject, meaning and tense without giving away the answer.

2

Type the form

You enter the conjugated form, exactly as on a classic card. Typo and accent tolerance still apply.

3

See the result

Once revealed, the correct form lights up green inside the full sentence – context and form are stored together.

Try it yourself

Turn gap mode on in the settings under “Card mode”.
